The Increasing Rudeness of America

I work in a motel. I answer the phone more times than a person should be forced to answer a phone in an eight hour period.

Is it any trouble for people to thank me for my help, properly end a conversation and not just hang up?!?!!?

Evidentally it is....

Rampaging stupidity.

I seem to have encountered a helluva lot of that today:

1. People that can't understand directions given in the most explicit detail as to how to get somewhere. Twice!

2. People that can't understand that I have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not someone has gone to work because I have no clue who they're looking for.

3. People that can't understand that I really don't give a rat's ass whether some brown stuff is coming out of some orifice on their trailer home.

4. People that can't understand that I sincerely don't care what they talk about, and that because I respond only in monosyllabic grunts, I still don't care!!!

5. People that can't understand that if they're scheduled to work at 11:00 pm, they should be here and ready to go at that time, not walk in the door at that time.

Nnnnng.... I need to lie down for a while before my head explodes.

Earworms

Today's earworms have included:

1. The Star Wars theme as heard on Robot Chicken.
2. I forget.... I guess the Robot Chicken theme has truly obliterated anything else in my head.

Oh. My car finally started this afternoon. I hope it starts again tonight so I can go home.

Still not starting

*pounds head on wall for a while*

Stupid car.

Start, dammit!

>_< @#&@!!!!!!!

My car and I are kindred spirits. We're both slow to start on cold mornings.

The temperature went in the crapper yesterday. I'll be surprised if it reaches a positive number today. I can't get my car started, so I am stuck at work right now on the morning of my day off. I'd have gone home last night if it hadn't been incredibly windy and blowing snow all over the place.

So... the One Way World has gone one direction... DOWN!

*grmmmblll*

Well... crap!

There must not have been too much excitement in the One Way World lately because I haven't posted in over two weeks.

Either that, or I've just been too distracted by new games and gadgets! I finally caved and got an iPod. I got the silver classic one with 120 GB of memory. That's more memory than my laptop. Wow.

Is it me, or is the world getting dumber?

I must admit that in my past, I had the fortune to graduate from college. Twice. Not that I'm actually using either of the degrees I have, but that's beside the point. The point of today's post is that I like to read the class notes in my alumni news just to see what people are naming their children. Then I wonder what's wrong with the parents for coming up with the names that they do.

Case in point... got one of the alumni news magazines today and looked through it. Saw that one of my professors got to take part in a Native American burial ceremony for some remains he discovered. Then I went for the birth announcements. After wading through countless pieces of fluff names, I came across one young couple that was blessed with twin boys. I just want to know what the heck they were thinking when they chose the names... Are you ready for this? They named the boys Dakota Doc and Canyon Jack.

I'm sorry, but those names would be appropriate for a couple desperados out in the Old West somewhere. I shudder to think what those two little boys are going to go through as they grow up.

What a load of....

For some reason unknown even to myself, I like to get a daily tarot card reading in my email. I also like to read them late in the day to see what type of day I was supposed to have had.

Here's today's tarot reading: Love: The Moon; Touchstone: The Sun; Career: The Emperor

Today the Sun meets up with the Moon in the heavens of your emotions, and this celestial marriage is making you radiant and full of love! Your longings are being fulfilled, love is welcoming you with open arms, and your infectious love of life is creating an atmosphere of mutual bliss. You couldn't wish for better cards for a day full of love and fulfillment. At work, you radiate confidence and capability all day long. Under the protection of the Sun and the Emperor, business discussions and agreements lead to definite success. Take advantage of the day's positive influence to cement your position or expand your sphere of influence in this area of your life...

I wonder what the people that write these are smoking sometimes. I am at work and am constantly fighting the urge to tell people what I really think of them. Especially my annoying little coworker who wouldn't know what "Shut the fuck up" means even if you spell it out for him.

As for radiating love and all that crap... I may be radiating something today. It ain't love. It may just be plain old gamma radiation or something. Hmm... sounds like fun. Time to Hulk out....

The mascot has a name

From my post on November 4th, I decided to use the picture of the Sky Dragon as my mascot. I also made a statement about a name for him. Well, only one person suggested a name for him. Thank you, Christian, for your ideas.

My Sky Dragon mascot is "Pouth, the Coney Antiped". It's now official.

I'm slightly bored right now... can you tell?

Oh for the love of Pete!

I just totally forgot what I was going to say here tonight. Arrrgh!!!!

It's another incredibly dull night at work. I've got just shy of 4 hours left of my shift and I want to run screaming out the door from sheer boredom. I've got all the paperwork that doesn't involve shift change/deposits done. I'm almost through with all the stuff I like to do online, so I may just have to raid my backpack for something to do.

Oh, yeah... there's a frat party or something going on in the back tonight. Whee.

I don't know why I like this guy

I found him in a book of clipart I got for cheap at Beans & Noodles. The caption says it is a Sky Dragon out of Serpentum et Draconium Historie from 1640. I want to know what the inspiration for it was.

Now that I have thought about it a little bit... I think it's his expression that I like.

I may just make him my mascot. He just needs a name now...

Follow up to WTF.

I went into that stall the other day and the ads have changed... for the most part. That DNA/Paternity testing one is still there. Sad....

Friday, October 24, 2008

WTF?

I work in a motel. Not the most exciting job in the Universe, but it pays the bills. In one of the stalls in the ladies' restroom there is a framed advertisement thing. It shows all sorts of ads for local businesses and other things that are in other towns that people may be going to.

Now, I'm going to apologize in advance for the crappy quality of this photo, but I have to show you what the ad looks like as a whole:

Photobucket

The ads include a local BBQ restaurant, a sort of local airline, a waterpark about 90 miles away, and a themed restaurant out in the Black Hills of South Dakota. But right in the middle is this:

Photobucket

Yes... an advertisement for DNA/paternity testing. I personally find it rather amusing that it's in there. However, I also find it rather sad that something like this is being advertised in a motel bathroom. Sort of a sad statement on today's society, isn't it?

Otherwise, the One Way World has been pretty dull. Rained more than it should be allowed to rain the other day.... *sigh*

Ah... I am here

Welcome to my new blog. I started this one to house my observations on life in general. There's no real set theme to it. Just if something catches my eye in the world, I'll post about it.

As for the title... Peter Gabriel has got to be my favorite singer/musician of all. I took the title from one of his songs: It's a wonderful day in a one way world. Right now, the actual title is escaping me, but the song has been running through my head for a while. Just be happy that I didn't choose the title from one of his other songs.... such as Games Without Frontiers. That one has some pretty odd lyrics.

So... that's all for now.
